LOTD for September 2 (late edition)

Microsoft is buying Nokia's mobile phone business and a license to its patents and mapping software for $7.2 bil.  Microsoft is getting 32,000 of Nokia's 56,000 employees and most of Nokia's smartphone and feature phone business.  A few years ago Nokia was the #1 smartphone maker in the world and had the #1 smartphone OS in the world...now, they have been bought by Microsoft for less than what Microsoft paid for Skype:

It is absolutely amazing to me that this 64-year-old woman was able to swim 110 miles from Cuba to Florida, becoming the first person to complete the swim without a shark cage.  She swam more than 48 hours and had failed on her previous 3 attempts...and she is 64 years old!  In her first attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida she lost 29 pounds before she had to stop:
