Achievement in Math among U.S. high school students has fallen significantly behind many other countries, including China, Japan, Finland, and Canada...a new study found a major source of the math gap: U.S. students do not have good understanding of fractions and division. Fractions and division are taught in elementary school but many U.S. college students don't understand them! The study found that 5th graders' understanding of fractions and division predicted high school students' knowledge of algebra and overall math achievement:

The Pakistani Taliban has banned polio vaccinations in the tribal belt in North Waziristan, days before 161,000 children were due to be vaccinated, and they said that they will not allow polio vaccinations until the CIA stops its UAV campaign. Pakistan is 1 of 3 countries were polio is still endemic, with 198 new polio cases last year in Pakistan the highest polio rate in the world. Last year there were 52 polio cases in Pakistan, where this year Pakistan has recorded 22 new polio cases. That tribal belt is the largest reservoir of polio in Pakistan:

A Pakistani general apparently told the UK Prime Minister to tell the Indian leadership in 2001 that Pakistan could launch a nuclear strike on India within 8 seconds:

Celestica is a contract electronics maker whose biggest customer is RIM, from whom Celestica makes devices such as the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Curve 8520. RIM makes up 19% of Celestica's revenue, but Celestica announced that they will stop manufacturing products from RIM...so, they are voluntarily stopping manufacturing for their biggest customer! Celestica sure doesn't appear to believe that RIM will be selling many products in the future...

IDG conducted a study of 3,124 IT and business professionals and found that 44% of first-time tablet buyers in business and IT plan to purchase an Android tablet in the next 12 months, compared to just 27% planning to buy an iPad and 3% planning to buy a Windows tablet. That result really surprised me, but it should be noted that 71% of respondents already own a tablet and 51% of those have an iPad. My personal opinion is that Android may be winning the smartphone market but it will be very, very hard to beat out the iPad in the tablet space:
