A group of Japanese physicists created a model to predict how word-of-mouth communication spread over social networks, and were surprised that their predictions were actually able to predict how much money each movie made at the box office. They now want to apply their model to other markets--noodle cups, soft drinks, online music, snacks, and local events:

Connecticut man called 911 because he was unhappy how the deli was making his turkey sandwich!  He not only complained to 911 about how they were making his sandwich, he complained to the 911 operator that the deli might not make his sandwich to his very specific requests in the future:
