Silicon Valley start-up is building robotic rovers capable of looking for rare metallic elements and precious metals on the moon.  Moon Express Inc. (MoonEx) has no guarantee that the moon is filled with those materials, but their officials feel that the moon may be a "gold mine" of rare earth elements:

With the 2004 Indonesian tsunami (caused by the first 9.0 earthquake since 1967), the destructive earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, and New Zealand recently, and now the 9.0 earthquake in Japan, researchers are wondering if the amount of giant earthquakes is on the rise. Records show that there have been periods over the past century that have had an unusual number of 8.0 or higher earthquakes, and scientists are saying that we may be in the middle of a new age of large earthquakes::

Researchers in China are creating genetically modified dairy cows that could someday produce *human-like breast milk*, which they say could supplement breast milk and replace baby formula. They have created 300 cows that produce milk with human breast milk properties, including lysozyme (fights bacteria and improves newborns' immune systems in their first few days of life):
