Scientists warn that the March 11 earthquake in Japan will not just lead to *10 years* of large aftershocks (they had a 6.6 and a 7.1 during the past 4 days!), but may have increased the risk of a major earthquake on another fault line near it in Japan. They point to the example of Sumatra--Sumatra had a 9.1 earthquake that resulted in a catastrophic tsunami in December 2004 and then 3 months later a nearby segment of the same fault broke again that resulted in a 8.7 earthquake:
