The 8.9-magnitude earthquake that devastated Japan moved the main island of Japan by *8 feet* and shifted the Earth on its axis by nearly 4 inches! If I hadn't seen so many of the photos I wouldn't be able to imagine 30-foot walls of water moving as much as 6 miles inland...wow:

There is great concern over the nuclear power plants in the devastated areas, with one power plant declaring an "emergency situation" and so many of the nuclear plants requiring controlled venting and needing the pressure reduced:
