Toyota settled the lawsuit over the fatal crash near San Diego last year that led to the national attention over their sudden acceleration problem and the massive recalls.  It is interesting that they only settled for themselves and Luxus dealership that was their co-defendant is still subject to the lawsuit...isn't it Toyota's fault that its dealer sold the car with the sudden acceleration problem?

A 3-million-year-old (older than creatures from the Ice Age!) whale fossil was found at a construction site at the San Diego Zoo.  The skeletal frame amazingly appears to be intact, so this is a rare discovery:
