xG Technology says that they have a carrier-class cognitive-radio network available today. Their system is currently designed to operate in the 900 MHz ISM band, but their cognitive-radio technology allows their system to be frequency agnostic:

Boeing won an $89 million DARPA contract to build a solar-powered spyplane that will be designed to fly continuously for 5 years at 65,000 feet. Boeing's spyplane only has to fly continuously for 1-3 months by 2014:

Scientists say that the oil-eating bacteria that suddenly took charge in the Gulf of Mexico after the oil spill may have gotten a jump start from natural gas. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill also released natural gasses such as propane and ethane--bacteria that eat hydrocarbons began ingesting those gases, which could have primed them to become more active and attack the more complex oil released into the water:
