Man with an untreatable and inoperable cancerous tumor in his brain won a Marathon (time: 3:07:35). That was 1 second slower than his personal best time (which happened before he had cancer), but this time he pushed his 6-year-old daughter in a stroller as he ran the marathon:

Japanese scientists found HUGE reserves of rare earth matals in the Pacific Ocean floor that can be mined cheaply, which could break China's monopoly on rare earth material that advanced electronics and weapons systems require. The decovery includes heavy metals that the US, Australia, etc. do not have in their rare earth reserves. This discovery is estimated to be 1000x more than ALL land-based rare earth deposits:

InfoWorld spent 18 hours with a leaked copy of Windows Blue (Windows 9, coming out this summer) and feels that this may be the least impressive upgrade ever to Windows. Microsoft apparently isn't coming out with a solution for desktops and laptops (Windows 8 works well for touchscreen devices but has been harshly criticized for its PC performance)...the big improvement apparently is that the tiles can be resized now:

Female developer was fired after tweeting about a group of men that made a joke about "big dongles" during PyCon (a computer programming conference). She confronted the men and they apologized, but she was fired for taking a photo of the men and posting it on Twitter--her company said that she shouldn't have publicly shamed the men (including men who may not have been a part of the comments). Two men in the group she said the comments were coming from worked for the same company and the company fired one of the men after doing their investigation into the incident:
