LOTD for June 6

Change your LInkedIn password if you have an account--6.5 million LinkedIn passwords were posted to a Russian hacker website. Those who stole the passwords posted them wanted help to crack the codes...and unfortunately the passwords were in a format that makes it easy to break the code:

Our Milky Way galaxy is going to collide with the neighboring Andromeda galaxy 4 billion years from now. It is predicted that the sun will be flung into a new region of our galaxy, but our Earth and solar system are not expected to be destroyed:

UC-SD toxicologists are reporting unusually powerful snake bites and unusually extreme patient reactions to those bites this year, with several patients suffering bites with severe symptoms. Some speculate that increasingly potent snake venom is due to the modern world encroaching on nature. The majority of the bites are on hands, fingers, and feet:

The IDC was far more optimistic than me last year when they gave a glowing forecast for Windows Phone smartphone sales, and they have ignored the anemic Windows Phones sales to predict that Microsoft's smartphone market share will pass Apple's by 2016!  IDC says that Google will decline in market share after their peak this year, going from 61% this year to 52.9% in 2016. IDC predicts that Windows Phone will increase to 5.2% by the end of this year (they are at 4% now) and will get to 19.2% in 2016. IDC predicts that Apple will go from 20.5% this year to 19% in 2016:

The big wireless carries in the U.S. are reportedly going to switch people from buckets of minutes to unlimited calling plans. The unlimited calling switch will apparently happen when each carrier gets their Voice-over-LTE in operation:

Google announced a huge upgrade to Google Maps--the ability to use it offline, eliminating the need for a data connection. You can even stop getting data completely (for example, if you are traveling) and Google Maps will still be able to give directions!  You can even zoom all the way down to street view without needing data coverage.  Google also showed off a backpack-type Street View rig that enables users to see street level in places that cars cannot go:

Google Earth is getting 3D renderings around the world, with Google showing off today how all of San Francisco has already been mapped in complete 3D scale. Google also introduced Google Tour Guide--Google Earth can show you points of interest you specify when you are visiting an unfamiliar area:

TomTom is releasing an Android app this summer. TomTom's app costs $59.99 on the iPhone, but will Android users pay that type of money when they already have the full Google Navigation service for free?

The HP TouchPad originally ran Android--it appears that HP was going to release it as an Android tablet before they made it into a webOS tablet:

Man who had previous stunts like living in Ikea for a week and visiting *171* Starbucks in a single day did another crazy start...he set a Netlix record by watching *252* movies in a month!  He took advantage of his unlimited streaming to watch that 404.25 hours of movies in a month:

Georgia family sued a cardiologist for not warning a 31-year-old man to stay away from physical activity before he had a test that was scheduled after he complained of chest pains that shot up his arm. The day before the test was scheduled, the man had a 3-some with 2 people (neither of whom was his wife) and the family said that his heart couldn't take it and he died.  The jury found that the cardiologist was 60% at fault for the death and awarded the man's family $3 mil!
