LOTD for May 4

Two Moms (one is a San Diego mother of a 4-year-old) took the maker of Nutella to court over false advertising and won their case. Their goal was to get the maker of Nutella to admit that, contrary to its ads, the product is no more healthy than a candy bar. They won $3.5 mil, which comes to $4 to $20 per person--anyone who bought Nutella between 1/1/08 to 2/3/12 can file a claim:

I've seen this in SciFi movies, but now it is reality--3D videoconferencing that allows people in different locations to video conference as if they are standing in front of each other. The person can walk around the image to see the other person's side or back!

Michael Jackson's brothers couldn't get Michael to tour with them after he left the Jackson 5 in 1975...but now they will go on tour across the country with a hologram of their brother completing their group again. Other groups that lost lead singers and want relevance (and money) may be using this technology again:

Oracle is suing Google over the Android platform, looking for a portion of the profits from Android.  However, a judge ruled that Google *lost* money on Android during EVERY quarter in 2010, despite generating $97.7 mil in revenue for the 1Q of 2010. It could be hard for Oracle to get much in damages or a piece of the profits if the court rules that Google lost money on Android...

Interesting study questions whether or not college football success really does increase alumni donations. The study of 29 D-IA football program from 2000-2009 found that every additional 1.5 wins in football increased athletic donations by about $6.7 mil...but *decreased* academic donations by about $16.4 mil!
