LOTD for May 18

Arizona's top election official who wants to run for governor of Arizona said in an interview yesterday that President Obama may not be on Arizona's ballot for President in November due to unanswered questions about his birth certificate.  He plans to run for Governor of Arizona in 2014 and is a Republican, but says (without coughing?) that he is not playing politics by saying that he could declare Pres. Obama off the ballot for President in the upcoming election:

The U.S. military had thought that China wouldn't have a stealth jet until at least 2020...but now the DoD thinks they will have a stealth jet in 2018. The DoD also didn't think that China had nuclear-powered submarines...but it turns out that they have 3 of them already. China also improved their amphibious assault vessel last year...while the U.S. Marine Corps hasn't been able to upgrade theirs:

Almost all of the other Android device makers have agreed to pay Microsoft for their patents that they claim Android is infringing on (Microsoft gets about $10 for every Android device sold), but Motorola has a strong enough patent position that they have been fighting Microsoft in court instead.  Motorola was found to not infringe on 8 other patents in the case, but the 1 patent they were found to violate has resulted in the ITC banning the sales of Motorola's Android smartphones. The verdict is under review and Motorola will appeal of course, but this is a big win for Microsoft:

Samsung sold more than 40% of Android smartphones in the 1Q while no other company sold more than 10% of Android smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy III already has *9 million* presales, so Samsung's role isn't likely to stop anytime soon:

Verizon is going to turn the LG Spectrum, Droid 4, HTC Rezound, and Droid RAZR (my phone!) into world phones soon. International radios have been included in numerous Verizon smartphones and they are finally going to be able to turn those hidden radios on:

Kentucky businessman found out that all the merchandise that hadn't been sold by a K-Mart on the store's final day would be sent to other stores and decided to buy EVERYTHING himself...and he donated the store's entire inventory to Clark County Community services!
