LOTD for March 4

Student project (high school kids from San Diego) used a balloon to capture photos of NASA's shuttle streaking into orbit on its final flight. The balloon used a Droid X and snapped photos from an altitude of more than 70,000 feet:

Good news for people in the IT industry--a survey by Dice found that 54$ of hiring managers and recruiters expect organizations to aggressively try to poach employees from other companies this year. This is partly due to the booming mobile industry and robust cloud computing market, as companies are offering a variety of improved benefits or money to attract/retain workers:

The Android version of Angry Birds has been downloaded 30 million times...that could provide an estimated $6 mil per month in ad revenue.  Another example of an App that costs money on other platforms but makes a ton of money by being free on Android and getting ad revenue:

Report states that RIM is planning to bring its BlackBerry Messenger app to Android and then eventually to iOS. RIM hasn't decided if it is going to make it free or charge a one-time fee or recurring fee for access to its BlackBerry Messenger service. They will limit things so that only people with BlackBerry devices will be able to have the full BBM experience:

Businessweek has been monitoring Dice and found that this week the number of job listings for Android developers passed the number of job listings for iPhone/iPad-related developers. On March 1 there were 987 job postings for Android expertise and 970 for iPhone expertise, a big increase from a year ago when there were 273 Android-related jobs and 312 iPhone-related jobs on Dice:
