The Yuba City, CA police department is spending some of its $70k DHS grant to purchase a remote controlled "tactical entry" robot to help police officers when they have to deal with someone barricaded inside a home.  The robot can show police what is behind a door and can also help survey dangerous chemical spills or other hazardous situations when humans need to avoid contact with dangerous materials:

The Air Force's new stealth bomber could carry bunker-busting munitions, high-powered lasers for self-defense (zapping missiles shot at it and enemy aircraft nearby) and communications, and consoles for it to control radar-evading UAVs. The add-ons will make the stealth bomber more lethal and harder to shoot down even though air defenses are being upgraded by countries such as China:

Somali pirates killed all 4 Americans they had been holding hostage...so US forces killed 2 pirates and detailed the other 13 onboard.  The pirates were negotiating a ransom when they unexpectedly killed all 4 hostages, with US forces raiding the ship after the hostages were killed. The hostages were 2 Americans who had been sailing around the world since 2004 and 2 of their friends who joined them relatively recently:
