Local CBS TV crew caught a mysterious missile launch just west of LA and north of Catalina Island, but everyone in the military claims they have no idea who fired the missile:

Small devices similar to pregnancy testing kits are being developed in the UK that will tell someone quickly and privately if they have a STD.  People can put pee or saliva on to a chip about the size of a USB chip, plug it into their phone or computer and receive the diagnosis within minutes:

The percentage of households that connect to the Internet using broadband was 9.2% in 2001 and 63.5% in 2009.  Even though more US homes have broadband internet, the gap is widening for broadband access between the races.  White and Asians in the US are far more likely to have broadband access than Hispanic and African-Americans, even when income and educational factors are controlled to analyze the data:

Interesting analysis of how the US Wireless Operators did in the 3rd quarter.  AT&T added 2.6 million connections while Verizon added 1.2 million connections, so AT&T gained on Verizon.  1.12 million of the additions for AT&T were for "connected devices" (such as the iPad).  Verizon is making a big push advertising how it offers the iPad now, so the "connected devices" number might equalize between the companies:

Looking at the Consumer Reports ratings of smartphones, it is amazing to see that Android phones are the top 4 smartphones on Verizon, top 2 on T-Mobile, top 3 on Sprint, and #1 and #3 on AT&T.  The only non-Android phone to make the top 2 on any carrier is the iPhone 3G on AT&T that came in #2.

I feel really bad for the people on the cruise ship that left from Long Beach that are being towed to Ensenada.  Being stuck on a cruise ship for 36-48 hours without hot water or food must be horrible!
