LOTD for November 3

BAE was selected as one of the prime IT vendors for the FBI's largest-ever IDIQ contract (worth up to $30 billion!):

The plotters behind the mail bombings last week did not actually know where their Chicago-bound packages were going to explode because the communication cards had been removed from the cell phones attached to the bombs.  That means that the bombs were not going to be remotely detonated--they probably were going to use the alarm or timer functions of the cell phones:

Researchers found an unexpected explanation regarding how salamanders are able to regrow lost limbs. These findings could revolutionize human tissue regeneration and that human cells can be put into the same state that results in limbs being regrown.  This also opens up a whole new theory for stem cell research--human bodies might find it easier to accept cells that have been only *partially* reprogrammed (like salamanders) instead of fully reprogrammed (like what researchers are doing now):

Fermilab physics experiment appears to confirm the existence of a new elementary particle, a 4th flavor of neutrino.  The results also seem to violate the principle that particles of antimatter are supposed to behave in the same way as their matter counterparts:

Article about analysts explaining why Android smartphones outsold iPhones in the US by nearly 2x in the 3rd quarter points out how Android smartphones are available on all major US carriers.  They state that Apple cannot compete with Android for market share when it is just on AT&T:

Sprint criticized T-Mobile for advertising that they have "America's largest 4G network" when the HSPA+ that T-Mobile is using has always been classified 3G before:

Commentary on how the 4G marketing message is getting very muddled, with WiMAX and LTE technically not 4G (16m and LTE-Advanced are officially the 4G technologies) and HSPA+ actually a 3G standard being marketed as 4G.  It is interesting that the reporter asked T-Mobile's direction of engineering and operations why they are using 4G as part of their marketing message and he wouldn't respond to the question:
