LOTD for October 29

Several UPS flights arriving in the US and UK today were moved to isolated areas and searched for explosive devices.  The TSA received a tip about shipments from Yemen via UPS:

Berkeley study found that there are at least 46 billion Earth-size planets in our galaxy, not counting Earth-size planets that orbit farther away from their stars in the habitable zone.  One out of 4 Sun-like stars in our Milky Way galaxy could host Earth-size planets, making life-bearing systems like ours possibly more common than previously thought:

Lawsuit alleges that employees at Toyota dealerships witnessed and duplicated sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles several times in the last decade, but Toyota did not report the findings to regulators.  The claims also allege that Toyota bought back vehicles from owners who complained of sudden acceleration, having the vehicle owners sign confidentiality agreements so they couldn't tell anyone of the sudden acceleration problems:

It looks like US Special Forces want to use Android-based smartphones and are developing Android apps to accomplish needed tasks for special ops soldiers deployed today.  This is very different than the Army's Nett Warrior program that will take years before it could get into the field and soldier-developed smartphone apps that might start being available in a year:

Southwest Airlines will be charging $5 per flight for any device that wants WiFi access during the flight.  $5 for the entire length of the flight is surprisingly reasonable to me:

I'm glad that Dish and Fox signed a long-term deal for local, cable, and sports channels.  Some people who get this LOTD are Dish customers who have been missing a few channels for a month or so...their guide data hasn't been updated yet, but if they tune in to the channels they will find them back on:

Target has known since August about their software problem that shortchanges coupon users--they only give a fraction of the coupon's value.  Target gets reimbursed for the full value of the coupon, so if shoppers do not notice they were shortchanged, this could be a new profit stream for Target:
