LOTD for July 3

Northrop received a $33 million DARPA contract to upgrade their Global Hawk UAV to become a refueling tanker for other UAVs. They plan to have one Global Hawk be able to carry 1,000 gallons of jet fuel and to autonomously refuel another Global Hawk in midair by next year:

It turns out that AT&T's network is as bad as its critics suggested and Apple has been adding up to 2 bars to its iPhone display that makes its users feel like they have better coverage than they really have. In order to make users feel better when they are seeing fewer bars after Apple displays how many bars they really have, Apple will make the first 3 bars bigger! Apple is spinning this as good for their customers because the first 3 bars will be "easier to see"...but they wouldn't be making the first 3 bars so big if they had 4 or 5 bar coverage:

Toyota is recalling 138,000 Lexus cars with faulty engine valve springs that could cause the vehicles to stall. The problem affects 2006/2007/2008 Lexus GS, IS and LS models in the US:

Study found that women who drink more alcohol each day than is in a glass of wine were 70% *less* likely to become obese than women who didn't drink alcohol at all. However, the more that men drink they higher their average BMI. The difference is theorized to be because women metabolize alcohol differently than men--women bodies actually use more energy to process alcohol than men bodies:
