Researchers seem to have discovered a way to place humans into suspended animation, allowing them to survive long periods of being frozen before being "reanimated" with no ill effects. They think that this could allow doctors or paramedics to "buy time" for severely injured or ill patients so that their problems could be fixed before they are woken up:
