UCLA researchers designed a "software obfuscation" system to encrypt software so that it only allows someone to use a program as intended while preventing any deciphering of the code behind it:

12-year-old girl got a deadly brain-eating parasite when swimming in a sandy-bottom lake at a water park in Arkansas. That water park also was linked to a fatal case of the same brain-eating amoeba in 2010. The disease is rare but deadly--only 1 out of 128 people infected in the US between 1962 and 2012 survived:
