Doctors were able to save a baby boy's life by using plastic particles and a 3D laser printer to create an airway splint. The baby used to stop breathing nearly every day and the airway collapse also stopped his heart. Nobody had ever used a printed artificial airway splint in a patient, but they were able to "print out" 100 tiny tubes and use them to save the boy's life:

Discovery of bacterium in the Arctic that can live at -15C is a big breakthrough because that area of the Arctic is about as cold as the surface of Mars. So, the bacterium provides clues to scientists about life on Mars and one of Saturn's moons:
