LOTD for March 8

Taiwan's massive early-warning radar system is now operational...they spent $1.4 bil on this Raytheon-built system, buying it back when Clinton was President, because China has more than a thousand missiles pointed at Taiwan.  The 10 minutes of warning that Taiwan can have could prove invaluable:

Seaweed leaves, commonly known as Neptune grass, is generally considered waste and ends up in the landfill...but seaweed is non-flammable, resistant to mold, and is being developed to use as insulation for roofs, interior walls, or to reduce heat loss through building envelopes.  It also will not rot due to their low salt content:

Interesting comparison of how much the different computer science-related degrees make, both in starting salary and in mid-career.  I thought that IT would be higher on this list and am not surprised that Electrical Engineering is tops in salary:

Samsung is reportedly close to a deal to provide a low-cost LTE smartphone in India that will cost just $100.  This would be HUGE for the market in India, especially since service plans will begin at just $1.83/month so it will make LTE smartphones affordable for the masses.  Samsung is reportedly getting a major involvement in this venture and will be positioned well to expand their sales in the huge and growing market in India:

Motorola Mobility is cutting 1,200 more jobs, on top of the 4,000 jobs they cut last August.  That comes to about a 30% reduction in their workforce:

Han, Luke, and Leia are returning for the Star Wars sequel and the original actors playing them were apparently already signed before George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney:
