Antimicrobial resistance is called a catastrophic threat to mankind, where people could die following even minor surgeries in 20 years. New infectious diseases have been discovered about every other year for the past 30 years...but few new antibiotics have been discovered. This means that we have almost nothing to deal with evolving drug-resistant diseases:

Caltech engineers developed a self-healing integrated chip, where 76 of the chips fit on a single penny. They demonstrated how they could destroy various parts of their chips by zapping them with a laser and then the chips automatically developed a work-around in less than a second:
