LOTD for March 1

I find it hard to believe that after all these years, a prominent Republican candidate for President would claim that Pres. Obama grew up in *Kenya* so his views are different than most Americans.  Kenya?  One of his aides claimed *much* later that Huckabee meant that Pres. Obama grew up in Indonesia...if so, why was Huckabee specifically bringing up Pres. Obama's views on the Mau Mau Revolution?  That revolution happened in Kenya and people in Indonesia probably had no awareness at all about it!

Google sure knows how to attract programmers to their Game Developers Conference: Free Stuff!  Yesterday everyone in attendance got a free Google Chrome laptop and today they all got to choose to have either a Motorola Xoom tablet or a Nexus S smartphone;

Google Body is now available in the Android Market for Android tablets.  Price: free!  Update: They just pulled it from the market, but not before someone was able to save an apk file so Android owners can install it for themselves:

Saab is going to use the Android platform for their cars and will be using open APIs and letting Android developers create apps that interface with over 500 signals from different sensors in their cars:

T-Mobile and Microsoft are ending the Danger Service for users of Sidekick devices, with T-Mobile trying to transition users from the Microsoft-owned platform to Android-based Sidekicks:

Sony Ericsson is trying to go from having 14% of the Android handset market to 25% of the global Android handset market. They are shifting their workforce from Europe to China and the US--they have already *tripled* their development staff in the US and have increased their staff in China by 60%. It sure is a good time to be an Android developer:

*Another* trojan has been found in a pirated Android app. This trojan signs you up for premium text message services, sends off texts without your knowledge, and blocks incoming texts so that you have no idea what they have done with your phone. This malware originated in China, just like the other Android trojans. Note that the official version that people pay for on the Android market does NOT have the trojan...just the pirated version:

40% of new Angry Birds players have paid 99 cents to skip a level that was too hard for them to pass.  Rovio hopes to make changes (in other words, make it harder) so that at least 50% of the people who play Angry Brids will make an in-app purchase to skip a level. When I downloaded Angry Birds for my phone (free on Android, 99 cents on the iPhone), I took advantage of the 2-press sequence you can do to unlock all levels of the game...but even if I didn't have everything unlocked, there is no way that I'd pay 99 cents just to pass a level!
