US UAVs have been having numerous problems due to system failures, computer glitches and human error. 38 Predator and Reaper UAVs have crashed during combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, and 9 have crashed during training in the US, with each crash costing between $3.7 million and $5 million. The Air Force says that there have been 79 UAV accidents costing at least $1 million each:

Scientists are trying hard to figure out how to use the magnetocaloric effect to use magnets to construct refrigerators that could consume less electricity and eliminate the use of hydrofluorocarbons (potent greenhouse gasses). Refrigerators are 8% of the average US family's electricity usage, so this could be a significant savings. Magnets could also cool laptops more efficiently than battery-draining fans and be used in car air conditioners:
