LOTD for July 25

Staples having their once-per-year sale where they give you *100%* back for ANY backpack you buy from them this week. I got an awesome Swiss Gear backpack this way during last year's sale. You pay for the backpack and get the (pre-tax) amount back in the form of a gift card that never expires!

An undercover investigation by the Government Accountability Office found that personalized DNA tests that 4 companies claim can predict certain inheritable diseases are misleading and offer little or no useful information. Investigators found that the DNA tests from the 4 companies delivered contradictory predictions based on the same DNA and found that test results often contradicted patients' actual medical histories:

New federal guidelines will enable patients treated at Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics to use medical marijuana in the 14 states where it is legal. Veterans have complained for years that the unclear former policy could bar veterans from VA benefits if they were caught using medical marijuana, so the new guidelines makes it clear that if they were legally prescribed it then they can take it without losing their VA benefits:

Las Vegas law firm is trying to do with newspapers what patent troll firms have done in the tech area. They are buying out the copyrights to newspaper articles for the sole purpose of suing blogs and websites that re-post those articles without permission. The copyright act allows them to sue for $150k per infringement, which enables them to force people to settle with them:

Verizon's CFO denied that the rumor that they will be getting rid of their unlimited data plans soon. It sounds like Verizon plans to wait until they start their 4G service in the 4Q of this year to get rid of the unlimited plans, though current customers will have their unlimited plans grandfathered:

Not only is HTC having a big problem trying to produce their HTC Incredible phones for Verizon, they apparently cannot make the desktop charging cradle they have promised for the past 3 months. Customers who ordered the charging cradles have had their orders canceled because the it had a design flaw that prevented it from passing quality control tests. Three months *after* the Incredible in on the market HTC doesn't even have a design for the charging cradle even though they took orders for it?
