LOTD for May 7

NY City officials are asking Congress to close the "Terror Gun Gap", where 91% of the purchases of firearms and explosives by people on the terrorist watch list have been approved over the last 6 years. I really wonder what the gun lobby will react to this--normally, they object to ANY restrictions on gun purchases, but are they going to say that people on the terrorist watch list should be able to buy explosives and machine guns?

Terrorism experts say that recent plots such as the attempted Times Square car bomb could be a sign that militant groups were trying for smaller terror attacks. The CIA chief and the National Intelligence Director have both warned that the 450 commercial airports and more than 50,000 malls and shopping centers in the US could be targets for attack:

US employers added 290,000 jobs in April, the strongest hiring burst in 4 years. 230,000 jobs were added in March (up from the 162,000 previously estimated) and 39,000 jobs were added in February (the previous estimate was a 14,000 *decrease* in jobs). 231,000 of the April jobs were added by private employers, FAR above analysts estimates. The May numbers will be artificially boosted by the hundreds of thousands of short-term census workers added:
