LOTD for May 5

BP said that the leak is gushing oil at a rate of 5,000 barrels a day, but the leak could increase to 60,000 barrels (2.5 million gallons) per day! Employees of BP, Transocean, and Halliburton say that the oil rig was drilling deeper than the 20,000 feet allowed by its permit and that BP failed to install a "deep-hole safety valve" that could have cut off the oil flow after an accident. Workers also said that the concrete seal was not properly formed, which allowed pressurized natural gas to shoot up in the rig, where it ignited:

Poll of smartphone users found that AT&T was the worst among the major cellular carriers in the US for dropped calls. Verizon customers reported losing only 1.5% of their calls over the past 3 months (giving Verizon the most reliable percentage *ever* recorded by ChangeWave) while AT&T customers reported 4.5% of dropped calls in the last 3 months.
