Lying early is a sign of a fast developing brain and the more plausible the lie, the more quick witted they will be in later years and the better they will be able to think on their feet:

It had been thought that when our ancestors (homo sapiens) met up with the Neanderthals that they wiped out the Neanderthals...however, a study found that between 1% and 4% of the Eurasian human genome comes from Neanderthals, so it wasn't all just fighting. Genome studies found Neanderthal genomes only exist in Europeans and Asians and NOT in native Africans, so it suggests that the interbreeding occurred after they left Africa:
