LOTD for May 2 (late edition)

Bariatric surgery apparently may "cure" diabetes--the diabetes typically goes away as early as days before the surgery, even *before* the patient has lost much weight. Doctors are not sure why the surgery cures diabetes, but theorize that it might benefit certain hormones or change the way the body reacts to insulin. They are recommending that bariatric be allowed for people with mild-to-moderate obesity people who have diabetes instead of limiting it to morbidly obese people:

Family has been fighting a $18,000 Verizon phone bill for 4 years after their son used his cellphone to get his laptop to download songs on the internet. I sympathize with their situation and understand how Verizon's offer to cut that in half still would give them a HUGE bill, but I have a few problems with their claims of innocence...1) *Data* service was not free on nights and weekends, only phone service; 2) Even when Verizon lets you go on the internet with your phone, you are supposed to download things to your *phone*, tethering to a computer costs a lot extra; 3) They did not have an unlimited data plan, so why was their son downloading so much data?
