LOTD for January 3

Airbus is having a lot of problems with its new transport plane--Airbus wants $7.6 billion (more than 25% of the initial budget) more from the governments that ordered the military transports. Airbus chief Thomas Enders said that he is preparing to quit the project because it will probably be unprofitable:

NASA selected 3 proposals as candidates for its next space mission to another celestial body--one project would probe the atmosphere and crust of Venus, the other would return a piece of a near-Earth asteroid for analysis, and the third candidate would drop a robotic lander into a basin at the moon's south pole to return lunar rocks back to Earth for study:
