NSF announced an award for an interesting communications project for a multi-robot system...let us say that I followed the progress of this award closely:

With the US military ending future orders of the F-22 Raptor, a Senate panel is urging the Air Force to start developing a model that can be exported to countries like Japan, Israel and Australia:

Japan could order 40 to 60 of the F-22s (at $250 million each that comes out to about $15 billion!) to deter a North Korea attack:

Boeing's Airborne Laser will try to shoot a ballistic missile down at a range of more than 100 km over the next few months:

Wired has a video of a recent Boeing success with a lower-powered laser zapping a missile:

Study found that the swine flu vaccine works with just 1 shot (no booster shot needed) for adults and that recipients are protected within 10 days:

The flu outbreak has started unusually early this year in the US, with cases in every state, and nearly all flu infections are swine flu:

China is already the fastest growing market for wind power and a new study found that wind power can by itself meet China's electricity demands that are projected for 2030. Wind turbines operating at 20% efficiency could provide 24.7 petawatt-hours of electricity annually, 7x China's current electricity needs:

Most natural rubber comes from rubber trees in Southeast Asia, but the rubber trees there can cause allergic reactions and a fungus may wipe out the rubber trees. Researchers have optimized the Russian dandelion to make it suitable for large-scale rubber production...that white liquid that comes out from dandelion stalks when you break them off is natural latex, which can be turned in to rubber:

The myTouch 3G is HTC's third Android-based smartphone and their fourth Android phone is called the HTC Tattoo. It is called Tattoo because people who buy it will be invited to design their own personal skin for the phone:

T-Mobile also is getting Motorola's first Android-based phone, the Cliq, with Motorola's stock jumping 7% after the positive reviews it got. Motorola bet its handset division's future on its Android-based phones, so hopefully this phone and the one going to Verizon (it is expected to debut in a few weeks) does well:
